German Basic Course A1

The course A1 Level is clearly structured and oriented to the European Reference Framework. Modern media, up-to-date course material and the combination of text and vocabulary work, grammar, phonetics and conversation, make effective learning possible.
The classes are small and participants come from various provinces wherein the emphasis is mainly on the practical use of the german language, i.e. on the participants' ability to speak and understand.
Each group is taught by at least two or more instructors., Primarily the medium of instruction will be 70% German.

Course Methodology:
To achieve a holistic learning experience, the course will be introduced through theories and application such as lectures, class activities, discussions, demonstrations and audio/visual presentations. It will utilize a collaborative learning environment and a didactic approach towards teaching.

Newly integrated into the regular German Basic Course is a special cultural course that aids to assist the participants to understand and relate more to their European counterparts, as well as enjoy learning the language even more, by getting a more solid grasp of the German culture. This additional course will try to help integrate students in anticipation of emotional and psychological expectations in a German-speaking country.
Topics discussed will range from simple everyday subjects to informative topics like Alltag in Deutschland, getting around by Bus, Auto, Straßenbahn oder Zug, common European art & architecture, women in Germany, common customs & special holidays, significance of well-known landmarks, important government offices, medical insurance and many more useful and interesting topics.

FAQ:
What does the A1 language level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages aim for?
The CEFR describes what an A1 learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing for this level in detail:
- can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
- can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
- can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

What is Start Deusch 1?
Start Deutsch 1 is a language test designed to assess an elementary knowledge of German. It is suitable for both adults as well as young people from the age of 16 onwards.
Learners who have passed Start Deutsch 1 confirm that they have reached a language level of A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, indicating the ability to use German at an elementary level.
Start Deutsch 1 is conducted and evaluated worldwide according to consistent standards. The Start Deutsch tests were developed by the Goethe- Institute (GI) in collaboration with TELC GmbH ( The European Language Certificates ).

Who can take Start Deutsch 1?
You must be at least 16 years old to sit the Start Deutsch 1 test.
The Start Deutsch 1 exam requires a language proficiency of A1 level of the European Framework of Reference for Languages. To reach this level you will need 85 to 170 classes of 45 minutes each, depending on previous knowledge and learning conditions.

Free German make-up classes!
Available to all the previous A1 students who did not pass the Start Deutsch 1 exams, Sprach Institut Cebu offers free review classes to all interested participants who wish to retake the exam and continue developing their German language skills. The classes are schedule on Saturdays. To update on the schedule & to secure a seat, please contact SIC directly via telephone or e-mail.

The examination fee for students of the Goethe-Institut is PHP 3,000. For non-GI students, the fee is PHP 4,000.
